Myrtle Pizzey SGFA biography

Myrtle initially trained at the West of England College of Art,Bristol, then after bringing up a family, she gained a Post Graduate distinction in printmaking and went on to teach in a sixth form college for sixteen years.

An active member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art and Artists 303, she has exhibited in many shows across the country and won numerous awards, including most recently, the Intaglio Print Prize and the Derwent Award for best in show at the SGFA open exhibitions 2009 and 2010.

It is very important for Myrtle to work from direct observation; in recording a landscape she will visit a location many times noting the difference in light at various times of the day and the variation of the seasons. Familiarity with the surroundings is a vital ingredient in her work.

Myrtle's beautifully executed lino cuts of the Somerset landscape not only reveal her fondness of the surrounding countryside but the level of skill required to achieve it.
